Hit Replay launches today for iOS and web! This interactive trivia game celebrates the Grateful Dead’s musical journey and the band’s origins 60 years ago in San Francisco.
San Francisco Travel Association partnered with Pantheon Media and Spooler to promote the city’s massive three-day anniversary concert series headlined by Dead & Company in early August.
An Iconic Band + Audio Innovation
Hit Replay will drop a fresh quiz every Thursday. Each week, the challenge focuses on a specific decade. Players hear concert snippets—from the Fillmore freak-outs of ’66 to the Warfield acoustic nights of ’80—as questions test their knowledge of the band. Answers unlock bite-sized lore, archival photos, and “excavation points” that feed the player’s score.
“Hit Replay isn’t just another trivia app—it’s a time machine,” said Christian Swain, CEO of Pantheon Media. “We wanted fans to hear San Francisco change as the Dead did, and Spooler’s audio engine let us weave music, memories, and game play into one seamless ride.”

From Idea to App in Three Weeks
The team at Pantheon knew they wanted to do something special to engage Deadheads and lovers of music history. With Spooler’s tools, they designed, prototyped, and published an audio game in just three weeks. Spooler’s intuitive node-based editor makes it easy to visualize and build interactive audio games and experiences.
Now that the game’s flow is in place, the Pantheon team can focus on what they do best: delving into their vast archive of music knowledge to create new quizzes each week. Spooler makes it easy to add new content: simply add text, upload sound and images, and click “Publish.”
